Some Safety Questionnaires

This is an announcement only for crew members to alert and activate emergency groups of the existence of smoke/fire on board.

Groups activated and proceed to their emergency stations are:

a. command center

b. Technical Team

c. Assessment Team

d. Fire Group A

e. Fire Group B

F. Fire Group C

g. Medical Team

h. Survival crafts preparation Team

This is an announcement for crew members over the PA system. You must proceed to your cabin, get your life jacket, warm clothing (including head covering) and proceed to your emergency station avoiding the emergency area. which has been announced on the public address system.

Groups activated and proceed to their emergency stations are:

a. Muster Control team

b. Evacuation Zone 2

c. Evacuation Zone 3

d. Evacuation Zone 4

e. Evacuation Zone 5

f. Special Needs Team

7 or more short blasts followed by one long blast from the ship’s PA system supplemented by the same signal on the ship’s hom. General emergency for all crew and pax. After this signal passengers should proceed to their Muster Stations.

One Continues long blast from the ship’s whistle supplemented by the same signal on the general alarm bells or announcement: “Ship’s company to Boat Muster Stations” means that all crew should proceed to their lifeboat and/or alternatively in the MES stations. Not abandon ship signal yet.

The order to “Abandon Ship” will be given verbally ONLY by the Ship’s Master through the public announcement (P.A.) system.

Following this announcement crew and pax must embark into L/Bs & MES/raft, lower boats in the water and remain in safe distance away from the ship.

A. Break glass at the nearest Manual Call point.

B. Inform the Bridge by phone on Emergency telephone 888; 1000.

C. Advise the location, extent and kind / class of fire.

D. Advise the location, extent and kind / class of fire.

E. Try to extinguish. If it’s not possible – evacuate the area.

F. Close all Fire Screen Door (FSD) around the area in order to avoid the smoke and fire spreading.

G. Prepare the nearest fire hoses and fire extinguishers for the fire squads.

1. Shout “Man Over Board port side” or ” Man Over Board stbd side” depending which side has fallen overboard.

2. Throw the nearest life ring to the sea. (night time the ring must be Equipped with a light).

3. inform the Bridge by telephone or send somebody to call Bridge: MOB port or starboard side.

4. Keep an eye on this person (locate the position) Until the ship turns around and picks him/her up.

D. CO2 system (Cover machinery spaces and locally in Galleys)

E. NOVEC covering paint store room

F. Flexi-Fog system (Cover Main Engine compartments)

G. Foam local systems for deep fat fryers in crew and main galleys.

A. Dry Powder or A.B.C. (small nozzle) For Solid, Flammable liquids and electrical fires. (A.B.C.) + K

B. CO2 (big nozzle) For Liquid & electrical fires. (B.C.) + K

C. FOAM For Solid, Flammable liquids fires. (A.B.) + K

Stay close to Deck floor as the smoke will be lighter down. Crawl and follow Low Location Lighting.

1. Class A (Material fire) – Paper, Linen, Wood, Rubber and Plastic.

2. Class B (Flammable liquids and gases) – Gasoline, kerosene, Grease or Oil.

3. Class C (Electrical fire) – TV, Electrical board.

4. Class D (Metals) – Magnesium, Titanium, Potassium or Sodium.

5. Class K (Oils and Fats) – Cooking oil, trans-fat, fats in cooking appliances.

⮚ One by one wearing lifejacket and cover shoes, no high heels, no sharp objects in the back pockets, descending the chute. Once in the life raft cross sitting one on opposite to the other.

⮚ 1 (One) package of food ration per person (10.000 kilojoules).

⮚ 1 1/2 (one and half) liters of water per person.

⮚ 1 × buoyant rescue quote, 2 × kinves, 2 × buoyant bailers, 2 × sponges, 2 × sea anchor, 2 × buoyant paddles, 3 × tin openers, 1 × first aid kit, 2 × buoyant smoke signals, 4 × parachute, 6 × hand flare, 1 × water proof flshlight, spare batteries, spare bulb, daylight signaling mirror, 1 × copy of life saving signal, 1 × fishing tackle, 1 × graduated drinking cup, and for each person 6 tablets of anti-seasickness medicine and 1 seasick bag, repair kit and survival manual (very important booklet).

DAYTIME: 6 hand flares (~1 min), 4 parachute rockets (~40 sec) 2 Floating orange smoke signals (~5 min), 1 signaling mirror Moving the lifejackets and orange cover up and down, SART, radar reflector, whistle, horn, shouting.

NIGHT TIME: 6 hand flares (~1 min), flashlight, 4 parachute rockets (~40 sec), signaling lamp, SART, radar, reflector, whistle, horn, and shouting.

⮚ To keep the life raft in the same position by minimizing the drifting due to the wind so that the other ships or aircrafts can locate the lifeboat or life raft at the same place from where the distress signal was transmitted

⮚ Sick or injured person at any time.

⮚ Everyone else 24 hours after abandoning the ship.

⮚ Seasickness pills are to be taken as soon as survival craft is away on a safe distance from the ship in order to prevent people getting seasick.

⮚ A safe distance is considered to 1 1/2 (one and half) times the length of the ship.

⮚ We look down to the sea to see if it is clear of people or any other obstructions.

⮚ Then we cross our arms, holding the lifejacket down and tight to our bodies, jump feet first looking forward towards the horizon.

⮚ Attention; The Maximum Height to Jump wearing our Lifejacket Should not be more than 5 Meters.

⮚ …_… Three short blasts, three long blasts, three short blasts or with flashlight.

⮚ In warm clothing and proper closed toed shoes, head covering.

⮚ In my cabin always and in a place easy to pick it up. If my cabin is in the affected area, I can get my lifejacket on deck 6- port and starboard side.

⮚ Normal body temperature is 37 degrees C. Person is considered to have hypotermia if body temperature falls below 35 degrees C.

⮚ Collect rainwater by using the cover and using fishing tackle for fishing.

⮚ Actually, we have to start collecting rainwater as soon as available and waiting until we are out of it.

⮚ If he is wearing clothes we undress him and cover his body with blankets or any other Thermo Protective Aid (T.P.A Thermal Protective Aid). hypothermia – this is loss of body temperature at cold water (by statistics – the first killer).

⮚ E.E.B.D. means Emergency Escape Breathing Device and provides you with 10 – 15 minutes of fresh air to escape from area filled with dangerous vapors or smoke.

⮚ On board are distributed 35 E.E.B.D. situated in strategic spaces especially in lower decks and machinery spaces.

⮚ FSDs can be closed locally by pressing the release button from each side of the door or automatically from the bridge. FSDs are designed to restrict the spread of fire or smoke for one hour.
